Say Liza!

If you've pondered how to pronounce my name...

It's a Hebrew name (אֵלִי), and so, the correct way to say it is eh-lee (emphasis on the eh). Most people use the spelling “Eli”, but this is open to too much interpretation (such as ilai, which I explicitly do not like.) So a friend, who has a keen for germanic languages, suggested Ælij (Aelij). I just love that cool æ ligature! Note that in latin-based languages, æ is pronounced ay, whereas in germanic-based, it is eh.

P.S.

The title for this post is a reference to Liza Minnelli's song, Say Liza. She too seems to be frustrated about people mispronouncing her name.

Of Revolutions

The previous post reminded me of a great anime series a friend recommended me: Revolutionary Girl Utena. I immediately fell in love with it, and so will you. Watch out, though -- it's a tad twisted (c:

Björk fans may also find interest in this spectacular Bachelorette Video, which is made of scenes from the Utena movie (Note: the movie is not a sequel of the series, but rather an alternate version of the story, and thus should be watch only after you finish watching the entire series.)

My truly first blog...

... was not this one, as this page's subtitle claims (I will change it as soon as I come up with a better one).

Anyway, I started one at theSpoke [http://www.thespoke.net/MyBlog/aelij/MyBlog.aspx] a while ago. Made only two posts, though. The name I used for it was Time Enough For Love, which is a great sci-fi novel by Robert A. Heinlein. Actually, it is a part of a series (but one you needn't read in a particular order [though some order may be recommended], so perhaps I should call it a set) named World-as-Myth. I've read the entire set, some books even more than once. They are revolutionary in many ways, even anarchistic at times, so it's definitely not for the faint-hearted; Heinlein's heros are usually very opinionated. Being the silent revolutionist that I am, I liked them quite a lot. Give it a try! You can start with Methuselah's Children.

I'm also going to try the next one. Wish me luck! (c:
